The department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has set a target of 341,000 admissions in 2020 under the various Canada Immigration Programs. This number will include 49,700 protected persons and 4,500 humanitarian and other programs that do not fall under regular immigration streams. This leaves 286,800 opportunities for immigrants to secure permanent residency in Canada.

Of the 286,000 immigration places available, the highest amount, a total of 85,800 places are reserved for the Federal High Skilled Program in the Express Entry Stream, with a further 67,800 being available through the Provincial Nomination Program. These two programs work hand in hand, which will be explained in detail further on. Following that the Care Provider Pilot will create 5,000 immigration opportunities and the Atlantic Immigration Program will create a further 4,000 opportunities for immigrants to apply for permanent residency.
